Dyeing, for a change

This week we're doing things differently. Instead of writing about what I learned from a story; you're going to get what I learned about manners.

I wouldn't say that I'm a mannered person. Well-mannered? uhh, sure. Mild-mannered? Depends on the situation. Appropriately mannered? Apparently not.

Very important topics were discussed around the office this week. Who was running for re-election? Who's going to be the next Berryville mayor? What's going on with the government building?

Few of the swirling conversations involved me.

(Yes, I will be reporting on the mayoral elections come Tuesday-- OBVI).

No – I was chewing the fat about a much more important topic – my hair.

I've grown somewhat concerned with its look-ability lately, considering it's wedding season and I will be attending quite a few of them.

Last year, I sprang up blonde like a bright flower amongst the crowd seated in the pews.

This year, I'm going dark.

In an effort to get a few opinions on the matter; I got into conversation with some gals at the office about what has been on the forefront of my mind. What am I going to do with this mop, something needs to be done- ASAP.

My natural hair color – dark brown- was growing in at the roots and my more yellow/red ends were shining through on the bottom, remnants of last year's season showing through.

One of the ladies said she had gotten her hair cut recently. Since she sports my much sought after dark color a la Selma Hayek, I asked her: “Do you get it dyed too?”

Well that's not a very nice question,” another lady chimed in.

Crap.

Why isn't it?

I talk about hair color and dyeing it all the time with my girlfriends.

Apparently, she said, not everyone uses it to look their best for wedding season, some – depending on age - use it as a “cover-up” instead.

Was my question in bad taste? I am inclined to say that I still don't believe so.

Next time I'll think of whose included in the conversation to see if they would take offense.

Then, I will cut them out of the conversation!

That's appropriately-mannered of me, right?!!
