This ones for moms

When interviewing a mother-daughter business team, I was amazed that the concept was even possible.

I mentioned that I could never work with my mother and what I got back was, “It's your age, you'll grow out of it.”

Honestly, I don't think so.

Actually, I know so.

(She is the incarnate of her mother, so if she's not changing, neither am I)

Mom and I could never work together for several reasons:

  1. She talks to much

  2. She can't hear

  3. We aren't interested in the same business

  4. She eavesdrops

  5. She always needs to know where I am at all times

Yes, these are all problems I have with her – and not vice versa - but since this is my blog, that's what you get.

I got to thinking, despite all of her annoying qualities, what is it about my mom that makes her so lovable?

I know there's something, because she is my best friend. I would literally die without her.

This is why:

  1. She thinks my sister and I are the greatest

  2. She'd be proud of me even if I pumped gas for a living - after receiving my college degree

  3. She calmly listens when I'm distressed

  4. If I cough into the phone, she whips out medication and a tissue in no time

  5. Most of all, she's hilarious without even trying (usually that's due simply to her face)

When I did the man-on-the-street for the paper this week, two men got me thinking about their Mother's Day greeting responses.

One man from Pakistan had the perfect answer: everyday should be Mother's Day.

Another man thanked his mother on behalf of himself, his siblings and the community.

This blew me away. This guy is on to something ... I don't even think my mom knows that she's the sh*t!

When my mom was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I thought my world was over.

She told me nonchalantly, like, no big deal.

She was obviously in denial and it was my time to step in and be a fearless warrior – for her.

Well, my mom one-upped me again.

She beat up cancer, spit it out, and now she even has a cuter hairdo to prove it.

Now I know the real reason why we could never work together, the one I left off the list.

I'd be too jealous.

I could never be half the woman my mom doesn't even know she is.

Thank you, God – for that-
