Welcome to The Library Corner!

Welcome to The Library Corner. Be sure to visit here often to find out the latest news about the Clarke County Library.

The library is in its last two months of fundraising to furnish the new building that is currently under construction on Chalmers Court.

There are three major fundraising efforts underway at this time. Community support is crucial to the success of all of these projects so don't delay... do what you can now! Here is an overview of those efforts:

A grant application has been submitted to Hamburger Helper's program called, My Hometown Helper. The application is for $12,800 and will buy two of the bookshelves for the new library. Strong community support is critical in obtaining this grant. Visit their website, www.MyHometownHelper.com ,  now and place your comments. See the article in the news by you section for detailed instructions.

A benefit dinner, "An Evening for the Library" will be held on Saturday March 15, 2008 at 6:00 pm. Held at Enders Fire Hall, the evening will include musical entertainment, puppets, storytelling, and a door prize raffle in addition to fantastic food. The event promises to be fun for the whole family and will help to furnish the new library. Tickets are on sale now. $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for children(5-12) and seniors (65+). Children under 5 will be admitted for free. Sponsorships are available as well. For more information visit or call the library (955-5144) or email cclbenefit@gmail.com .

A community quilt project is also underway. Unique quilt squares can be purchased at the library for $10 and are to be instilled with the name of a child and his/her favorite book or movie. The squares will be sewn into a quilt that will then be donated to the library. Have a beloved child in your life be a part of the new library and have their favorite book or movie remembered forever in a beautiful hand-crafted work of art.

We thank all of our citizens, friends and businesses who have helped in raising $93,202 so far. As Trish Ridgeway, the library director, was recently successful in negotiating prices with the furniture supplier we now need only $56,789 to complete the campaign. So spread the word! Let's finish this and get our library furnished!
