The children of Clarke County were provided a physical and mentally stimulating learning opportunity on April 26 at D.G. Cooley Elementary School. The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Berryville Police Department and Clarke County Public Schools staff hosted a bike safety rodeo, where children learned about the laws of bike riding, safety tips and practiced riding through obstacle courses A snail race also occurred involving students racing the Berryville Bike officers to see who could go the slowest. Helmets were provided by the Berryville Police Department for children who had outgrown theirs. Literature was available for parents and children to take with them to further discuss the safety information provided during the event. The collaboration among the three groups made this event a fabulous success.

I thank the officers, teachers and students for their time and effort to make this wonderful event available for all the children of Clarke. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, you haven’t missed out because the Berryville Police Department and Berryville Main Street are teaming up to offer another event. Plan to attend Sat., May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the parking lot behind Carter and Burton Architecture.
