We have received a number of queries from parents concerning the location of this year's high school graduation in the event of rain.
On Nov. 19, 2007, at the School Board's regular meeting, Dr. Smalley announced that for the 2008 graduation, she had reserved the facility of Butcher Center at Sheperd University, Sheperdstown, WV. She indicated that the cost would be $2,300 - non-refundable. She indicated this could be considered by the new board, but had made all the arrangements.
When the new School Board took office in January, this non-refundable amount had already been paid. In January, the new School Board discussed, but made no changes to this arrangement.
The high school staff was, as is normal, entirely responsible for issuing the invitations. I am attaching a copy of the invitation which was received by our board, where you can see the sticker which was put on at the bottom. Why the rain location was not printed on the original invitation when printed, or why apparently a number of parents have received invitations with the CCHS gymnasium printed on it as a rain location (= no sticker) is a valid question, given that this option was never discussed by anyone.
Please note and pass on the information that only in the event of rain, the June 1st 2008 CCHS Graduation will take place at the Butcher Center - Sheperd University.
