Eagles grounded by Bulldogs

Last year one of the biggest wins of the season took place in Berryville when the highly touted Martinsburg Bulldogs came in to play the Eagles.

The Eagles pulled off a thrilling 65-62 victory and went on to win their second consecutive Virginia High School League Single A Championship.

This year the Eagles were not as fortunate as the Bulldogs. The sixth ranked team in AAA West Virginia grounded the Eagles 87-47 before a large crowd on Saturday afternoon. The game, originally scheduled for 8 p.m. was moved up due to the impending ice storm.

Joe Racer led the Eagles (3-2) with 15 points. Charles Bailey added 11. Chandler Rhoads was held to 5 points after scoring a career high 39 points earlier in the week against Stonewall Jackson.

Martinsburg (3-0) was led by Isaac Thornton with a game high 31 points. The Bulldogs led after every quarter and were able to play most of their squad by the end of the third quarter.

The Eagles will travel to Quicksburg this week for a second meeting with the Stonewall Jackson Generals. The Eagles defeated the Generals 82-44 last week in Berryville.
