Berryville seeks tree board members

As part of the application process to become a TreeCity USA town, Berryville is forming a tree board.

The board will be comprised of five members who are citizens and residents of the town.

Board member duties and responsibilities include:

Serve to enhance the public participation in the beautification of the town through landscape improvements by using, whenever possible, native plant species;

Act as an advocate for both public and private landscaping, assisting in the coordination of both;

Provide advisory oversight to the amendment and the implementation of the comprehensive landscape master plan;

Assist with the education of the public on matters of public landscaping through materials, public appearance and media exposure as appropriate, and

Act in an advisory and advocacy role to the town council and town manager.

Members should have an interest in landscape design, master gardening, tree care and health and exhibit a general concern for the environment.

The town staff welcomes any recommendations concerning appointments to the board. Talent bank forms will distributed to anyone recommended for this position.

The Tree City USA program provides direction and assistance for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities throughout the country.
