High winds damage house under construction
A house under construction just outside the town of Berryville partially collapsed due to high winds Sunday.
A neighbor heard the noise and called 911, according to Gary Pope, Clarke County building officer.
When viewing the house from the road, approximately one-third of the left side of the house, including three windows, is visibly tilted. Inside, some of the framework lies in piles of rubble.
Pope said that no one was working on the house due to the high gusts of wind. He explained that partially completed buildings under construction are unstable compared to finished buildings, and susceptible to high winds.
Pope said an exact figure was not available, but he estimated that $50,000 worth of damage was done to the house, in addition to the cost of the work.
Pope said the house is being built by Roy Delph.
