New daycare ministry dedicated to being affordable

Drivers slowed down, beeped their horns and waved as they passed by Sylvester, who revealed his true identity as Bobby Hudnall, son of the church's pastor, Bobby Hudnall.

He volunteered to dress as Sylvester to draw attention to the church's new daycare program, which was launched in September.

Pastor Bobby Hudnall said the daycare's purpose is to be a ministry, and the goal is to make it as affordable as possible for working families.

"The cost is $100 a week, which we believe is the lowest in the area," Hudnall said, explaining that his wife, who is co-pastor of the church, spent time calling area daycares to get an idea on typical pricing.

"We wanted to keep it low so we can help families where both parents need to work," Hudnall explained.

The daycare currently has nine children, and is overseen by a lead teacher and two other teachers. Time was spent getting rooms and curriculums together, and the teachers set up five basic rules for safety.

"The vision I have is making sure this remains affordable," Hudnall said. "It's a ministry geared toward helping families, and not created to be a moneymaker."

The center is open Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and can be reached at 540-837-2425.
