New officers in town

Two new officers joined the Berryville Police Department this month.

Terry Fritts, resident of Front Royal, said he came to Berryville because he likes “the small town, the mom and pop.”

Fritts started training at the Rappahannock Criminal Justice Academy in Middletown this week. He will finish in May.

“I intend to help out as many people as I can,” he said. “I’m not out to bust out anybody’s chops, I’m here to help.”

He enjoys doing family things, he said, such as playing with his 3 year-old, watching movies or playing the game Wii during his off time.

Tim Bristol was an officer in Illinois for 12 years. He left as a lieutenant officer. He came to Berryville when his wife transferred to Winchester Red Cross.

"I like the small community," said Bristol. Being a part of the community police, he said he's still orienting himself with the town.

"I'm going around meeting shop owners, who they are, when their hours are," he said.

He said he doesn't have a specialty now, but he was a juvenile and field training officer in Illinois. He said he'd like to get into field training again, "to show new officers how it's done here."

Bristol will spend four weeks in training at the academy to get acquainted with Virginia laws.

His hobbies include fishing, watching sports and baseball. "I can't play, but I like to watch," he said.
