Clarke County soccer teams fall in finals

FALLS CHURCH -- It was a long trip back to Berryville for the Clarke County High School boys' and girls' soccer teams May 22 after losing Bull Run District championship games to host George Mason.

The Eagle girls lost 6-5 in penalty kicks after four scoreless, five-minute overtime periods. Clarke County's boys' team lost 3-0 in regulation time as George Mason dominated shots on goal by a 12-4 margin.

Katheryne Lawson, Danelle Moyer, Brittney Chandler, and Logan Johnson each converted penalty kicks for Clarke County in the girls' game. The Eagles forced overtime when Sarah Elliston scored off an assist from Moyer with 1:14 left in regulation.

Both Eagle soccer squads qualified for the Region B playoffs by advancing to the Bull Run championship games. Clarke County's softball team also advanced to regionals.

The Region B quarterfinals will be held May 26 with all three Clarke teams in action.

The Eagle girls' soccer team will play at Riverheads in Staunton at 1 p.m. and the boys' soccer and softball squads will play at Wilson Memorial in Fishersville. Both of those games begin at 5 p.m.
