New Library a Reality

Have you visited the construction site on Chalmer's Court in downtown Berryville? The new government center slated to house the Berryville and Clarke County government offices as well as the new Clarke County library is well under way. The three-winged building is slated to be finished during the summer months of this year.
The Clarke County Library originated as an all-volunteer organization in 1985 and is part of the Handley Regional Library, which started in 1913. Nearly 23 years later, the Clarke County Library will move from the original location at 36 E. Main Street to the wonderful new facility on Chalmer's Court. As the county budget is limited, the library has endeavored to furnish the new space solely through donations from the generous citizens of Clarke County and friends of the library. The library advisory board has raised nearly half of the $200,000 needed to fully furnish the new space. Time is drawing near for furnishings to be ordered for the timely occupancy of the new library. Board members are making a final push at raising the additional funds needed.
Current fundraising projects in the works to contribute toward the library furnishings include a benefit dinner entitled, "An Evening for the Library" as well as a community quilt tapestry project. Quilt squares are available for $10 and will be painted to display a child's name along with their favorite book. Once completed the quilt will be available for sale or display, all proceeds go to the library.
The benefit dinner will be held at Ender's Fire hall on the evening of March 15 and will include pasta dinner, entertainment, a door-prize raffle, and fantastic desserts. Additional information and tickets for the dinner will be available soon.
Donations towards furnishing the library are greatly appreciated and naming opportunities are still available. Donations can be made in cash or check written to the Clarke County Library.
