Carlton L. Emmart

Died April 14, 2008
 

Carlton Lee Emmart, 86, of Berryville, died April 14 in the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center in Winchester. He was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Winchester to the late Frank Lee and Juliet Lee Emmart.

Friends may call Friday, April 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville.

Funeral services are Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville, with the Rev. William K. Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester.

Mr. Emmart was a retired cattleman.

He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville, where he served as a former administrative board chairman. He was a member of the Clarke County Ruritan Club, where he was past president. He was the former head of the beef department at the Clarke County Fair. He was the past president of the Clarke County Farm Bureau, Northern Virginia Livestock Producers, and former president of the Virginia Cattleman’s Association. He was a member of the National Cattleman’s Association and the Winchester Moose Lodge. He was a former director of the Bank of Clarke County. He was a former member of the Clarke County Electoral Board, Northwestern Virginia Officials Association, and Clarke County Sanitation Authority.

Mr. Emmart married Dorothy Wynkoop on Dec. 7, 1946, in Berryville. Mrs. Emmart preceded her husband in death on May 18, 1989.

Survivors include his daughter, Teresa E. Baker of Berryville; two grandsons, Richard C. Catlett, Jr. of Winchester, and Chad Emmart Strosnider of Round Hill; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Carlton Catlett.

A brother, Allen P. Emmart preceded him in death.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Wisecarver, Eddie Wisecarver, Jack Hardesty, Fred Jones, Charles Kackley, and Billy Milleson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Clarke County Ruritan Club.
