Fanny Kirby Matthews

Died April 20, 2008
 

 

Fanny Kirby Matthews, 87, of Berryville, died April 20 at Winchester Medical Center. She was born Nov. 19, 1920 in Upperville, the daughter of Henry Thomas and Lula Mae Hurst Kirby.

Mrs. Matthews retired from the Fairfax County government.

She was a member of the Community of Worship Center in Round Hill.

She married Harry M. Matthews, Jr. on Dec. 9, 1941 in Warrenton. Mr. Matthews died on May 6, 1991.

Survivors include a son, Harry M. “Pete” Matthews III and his wife, Judy of Berryville; two sisters, Doris Coleman of Fairfax and Rebecca Lloyd of Boyce; good friend Dowl Boteler of Berryville; two granddaughters, Kellie Ballantine of Springfield and Tammy Good of Spotsylvania; three great-grandsons, Bradlee Rogers and Bryan Rogers of Springfield and Jeffrey Good of Spotsylvania.

Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie R. McConnell, three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held April 24 at 11 a.m. at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville, with the Rev. Robert Glascock officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville.
