Ernest Eugene “Mac” McIntyre

Died April 16, 2008
 


Ernest Eugene “Mac” McIntyre, 84, of Virginia Beach, died April 16 at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke. He was born Nov. 17, 1923 in Winchester, the son of Ernest Manuel and Nora Virginia Smallwood McIntyre.

A 1942 graduate of Handley High School in Winchester, Mr. McIntyre joined the Army during World War II. He saw duty in the Philippines and New Guinea as a signalman, earning several medals including two Bronze Service Stars.

After the war he returned to Winchester to marry Marie Josephine “Jo” Lancaster of Berryville on Jan. 19, 1946.

He was employed by Caldwell-Sites Co. (later Unijax) for 30 years. The family moved to Virginia Beach in 1977, where he was general manager of Norfolk Stationary Co. He later joined Mutual of Omaha Insurance, becoming top producer in the Norfolk region until retirement.

He was a Past Executive Director of the Apple Blossom Festival, and member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester and Virginia Beach.

He was a member of Winchester Jaycees, Lions Club, V.F.W., D.A.V., and Elks Club where he was Exhalted Ruler and bestowed a Life Membership.

Survivors include his son Gary Eugene McIntyre and his wife Barbara Huntsberry McIntyre of Virginia Beach; son Stephen G. McIntyre and his wife Peggy Lineweaver McIntyre of Dayton; daughter Amy McIntyre Perkins of Gates County, N.C.; son Byron “Barney” McIntyre of Arlington; six grandchildren, Corey R. McIntyre of Arlington, Wesley H. McIntyre of Virginia Beach, Callie McIntyre and Carl McIntyre of Dayton, Bradley Perkins and Matthew Perkins of Gates County, N.C.; a brother, Richard McIntyre of Winchester, and cousin, Donald Smallwood, both of Winchester.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Theadora “Teddy” McIntyre Dabney of Rock Hill, S.C.; and his brother, Arthur L. McIntyre of Winchester.

Funeral services were held April 20 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville with Pastor Robert Alley officiating.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Military honors were provided by the Clarke County Honor Guard.
